Closing: Off The Griddle cart

Just in case you hadn’t heard, solar-powered vegetarian burger cart Off The Griddle and partner breakfast joint A.N.D Cafe will be combining forces to form one restaurant in 2013 (there’s 5 days left to support their Kickstarter campaign to help outfit their forthcoming location with sustainable features). On their road to a combined space, they are closing down the cart on Wednesday, September 26th and burgers will be on a hiatus until the new restaurant. So you have a few more days to get a burger fix—the last special is the Pumpkin Curry Falafel Burger. Stay tuned to their Facebook page for an announcement on what special thing they’ll do on Wednesday for their last night. [UPDATE 9/26: starting at 4pm, they’re giving away free burgers]

Open: The Cheese Plate PDX

Portland Monthly’s Eat Beat posted about a new vegetarian cart opening on Alberta that while based around cheese, has made a point of including some vegan options. Their summer menu does not offer any vegan cheeses, but they do have wild mushroom and kale pâté with balsamic seaweed caviar, corn and potato salad with white truffle aioli, melon with ginger sea salt, hazelnut and popcorn party mix, and Pacific Northwest Kale Chips. They also say they can veganize their Garden Cheese Sammich by not including the cheese and adding extra hazelnut romesco sauce. They’re located in the little cart pod next to Townshend’s Tea and will have a soft opening tomorrow during Last Thursday, with a grand opening on July 6th.
