The Vegan Mini-Mall is hosting a post-Vida Vegan Con hangout (open to the public) tomorrow evening so people can socialize and eat seitan tacos made by Upton’s Naturals and Food For Lovers Vegan Queso (at Food Fight!), S’mores served up by Chicago Vegan Foods and Vegan Cuts (at Herbivore), and Ice Cream Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwiches (at Sweetpea; there will be a gluten-free option).

Profits from S’mores sales will be going to Out to Pasture Sanctuary.

Event: Vida Vegan Galarama

The Vida Vegan Conference is in full-force this coming weekend as tons of vegan bloggers coalesce in Portland. While the conference is sold out, the Galarama party and silent auction is open to the public. The Galarama is on Saturday night at Staver Locomotive and there will be snacks and the So Delicious Ice Cream Spectacular featuring brownies from Capital City Bakery, as well as raffle prizes and a silent auction to benefit Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest. The event is all-ages, but you’ll need your ID to drink.

Event: Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale

The Portland Edition of the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale takes place this Sunday at Mississippi Marketplace. This year, the fundraiser will support Cat Adoption Team and Green Acres Farm Sanctuary’s Shelter Our Sheep Project. Over 50 bakers are donating sweet and savory goods including professionals Dovetail, Sweetpea, Back to Eden, Petunia’s, Cinnamon, and Voodoo Donuts. Some items to expect include salted caramel chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter pretzel cupcakes, tempeh sausage drop biscuits, raw fudge, tamales, mini galettes, truffles, pretzel dogs, and thin mint brownies. There will be a good selection of gluten-free options too. Bring your own tupperware to stock up on treats!

Event: Au Paon Silent Auction

In-the-works vegan dessert bar Au Paon is hosting a fundraiser and silent auction this Saturday. The ticket price includes a beverage (beer, wine, kombucha), handmade dessert (raw cheesecake), and tamales. You can bid on silent auction items like tickets to the Crystal Ballroom, raw-vegan pies from The New Leaf, branding/logo design, gift certificates to Herbivore, Sweet Hereafter, Bicycle Maintenance and more. There will be raffle tickets for sale to win a $200 gift certificate to Breitenbush Hot Springs. DJ Honest John of Ancient Heat will be DJing and DJ Prashant will be teaching a Bhangra dance lesson.

Event: Au Paon Dinner

Portland is getting a new cooperatively-owned vegan dessert bar and cafe from some folks you may know from The New Leaf, Portobello, and Red & Black. It’s called Au Paon and they’re hoping to land a space on East Burnside where they’ll be serving raw desserts and entrees, smoothies, juices, salads, snacks, and signature cocktails.

In the meantime, they are hosting a 3-course fundraising dinner featuring an organic, raw, gluten- and soy-free vegan menu (Aged Cashew Cheese w/ Apple, Pear, and Rosemary Crackers; Ravioli w/ Wild Arugula Salad; Strawberry, Chocolate & Banana Neapolitan) and a beverage of your choice.

Event: VegFest

This year’s Portland VegFest takes place tomorrow and Sunday at the Convention Center. There are free samples of lots of different foods, cooking demos, speakers, family activities, and more. You can also purchase food from Homegrown Smoker, Green Wok, Vege Thai, Sengatera Ethiopian Restaurant, Veggie Grill (Saturday only), and Tandem Treats (Sunday Only). Admission is $6 (you can download a coupon for $1 off) and free for kids 10 and under.

In conjunction, Mayor Sam Adams even declared this weekend Vegan Awareness Weekend in Portland and “encourage[s] all residents to observe this weekend by eating delicious vegan meals.”

Event: Sanctuary Century Bakesale

There’s a vegan bakesale this Sunday at Mississippi Marketplace to raise money for The Sanctuary Century, a 100-mile bike ride fundraiser for Out To Pasture Farm Sanctuary, Hope Animal Sanctuary, and Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest. Some of the sweet and savory goods that will be available include mini scones, caramel apples, pretzel dogs, mini bundt cakes, apricot cream cheeze cupcakes, soda cracker toffee, and Dovetail & Petunia’s.

Portobello is hosting a soul food dinner fundraiser for Pursuit of a Green Planet’s Portland Youth Hip Hop Green Dinner. There are two sittings on Sunday, September 2nd, at 5pm and 7:30pm for a family style dinner with Mac n’ Cheez, Greens, BBQ, Biscuits, Black Eyed Peas, Corn Bread, Sweet Potato Pie, Red Velvet Cake, and more.
